ICP Smart Services UAE: Visa Checks, Entry Permits and UAEICP Explained

ICP smart services is the digital front door of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security — the body that used to be called ICA, which is why “ICA smart services” remains what most people type. On icp.gov.ae and the UAEICP mobile app you can check a visa or residence file’s validity, track an entry permit, follow an Emirates ID application and look up immigration fines — all free, and for the basic inquiries, without creating an account. The one structural thing to know before any of it makes sense: ICP handles the visa files of every emirate except Dubai, whose residence visas live with GDRFA Dubai. This guide, updated July 2026, maps the portal’s services, the uaeentry channels, the ICA-to-ICP naming tangle, and the employer workflows that quietly depend on all of it.

ICA, ICP, IPC: one authority, three names people search

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) was the UAE’s federal identity and immigration body for years — long enough for “ica smart service abu dhabi” to become the standard way residents searched for its tools. In 2022 the authority absorbed customs and port-security functions and was renamed the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security — ICP. Same visa files, same Emirates ID system, wider mandate, new domain: icp.gov.ae, with the legacy ica.gov.ae addresses forwarding into it.

“IPC uae” is simply the transposed spelling — no such authority exists, and the search lands in the same place. The naming history matters for one practical reason: guides, bookmarks and typing-centre advice still reference ICA addresses, and knowing they forward to ICP saves you from assuming a link is fake when it is merely old.

The ICP–GDRFA split: which authority owns your file

Two things fall out of the table. First, Emirates ID is federal even for Dubai residents — the card always tracks through ICP, as we walk through in the Emirates ID status check guide. Second, a company with staff sponsored in more than one emirate is necessarily running two immigration relationships, and its expiry-tracking process has to check both.

What you can actually do on ICP smart services

The portal’s catalogue is long, but the services that carry nearly all the traffic:

File validity / visa status inquiry. Enter passport details or the unified number and get the current status of a residence or visit file — valid, expired, cancelled — with its expiry date. Free, no login. This is the official answer to every “check UAE visa status online free” search, and the reason paid third-party “visa info” sites have no legitimate role: they resell a lookup the government gives away.

Entry permits and the uaeentry channels. Electronic entry permits and e-visas for ICP emirates are issued and verified through ICP’s uaeentry service pages — the official home of the uaeentry.ica.gov.ae address that circulates in forwarded messages. Validity checks are free; anyone asking for payment to “verify your entry permit” is a red flag, not a shortcut.

The UAEICP app

The UAEICP app (iOS and Android) mirrors the portal with a mobile-first profile: UAE Pass login, a documents wallet holding digital versions of the Emirates ID and residency details, service applications, fee payments and push notifications on file changes. For residents whose files sit with ICP it is worth the home-screen slot; for Dubai-visa holders its daily value is thinner — their residence file lives in the GDRFA app — but Emirates ID tracking alone justifies the install, since the card is federal.

A word on lookalikes: the app stores contain a persistent crop of unofficial “UAE visa check” apps wrapped around scraped or fake lookups. The official publisher is the authority itself. The same discipline applies as with websites — if it is not gov.ae or the authority’s verified store listing, your passport number does not belong in it.

The employer view: establishment files and expiry discipline

For companies, ICP is not an occasional lookup — it is one half of the machinery that keeps a workforce legal (MOHRE being the other, as covered in our MOHRE employer guide). A company sponsoring staff outside Dubai holds an establishment immigration file with ICP; every entry permit, residence stamping and renewal for those employees runs against it, either directly through the portal or via a registered PRO.

The failure mode is always the same: nobody owns expiry dates. A residence visa that lapses quietly triggers overstay fines against the employee, blocks the establishment file, and can stall unrelated applications for the company — all for want of a monthly report. The discipline that works is unglamorous: a tracker with every employee’s visa, passport and Emirates ID expiry, checked monthly, with renewals launched 60 days out. Companies that hire steadily usually delegate the portal work to a PRO and keep the tracker in-house; the point is that someone is looking.

Common problems and their boring causes

“No record found” on a valid visa. Wrong authority — a Dubai visa searched on ICP, or vice versa. Check where the visa was issued and switch portals.

Entry permit approved but not showing. The uaeentry lookup keys off exact passport details; a renewed passport or a transposed digit is the usual culprit.

Fines appearing on a cancelled file. Overstay fines crystallise at cancellation or exit if the timeline slipped; they must be settled before a new permit will issue — details in the fine check guide.

Establishment application frozen. Almost always an upstream dependency: an expired trade licence, an unsettled fine on the file, or a missing attested document — the sequencing problem we describe in the MOFA attestation guide.

Where this fits
